About this deal

In Inkdeath, the books' names are directly addressed, translating the three regarding words directly (heart, blood, death). When he finds a crooked storyteller with the magical ability to read him back into the story, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges back into the Inkworld of his past. The fire-breather leaves behind Farid and Gwin the marten, believing that Gwin is predestined to bring about his death in the Inkworld. Dustfinger is ecstatic to be back home after his long exile; Meggie is thrilled to explore the story that has seduced her with its beauty; Mo and Resa want only to bring their daughter Meggie back. Dustfinger, now in the Inkworld, regrets the fact that Farid didn't come back with him but didn't suspect that Orpheus intended it that way.

While the permeability of the membrane between imagination and reality may form the base of the novel, Funke delivers more than enough action, romance, tragedy, villainy, and emotion to keep readers turning the pages- and waiitng for the sequel the cliffhanger promises. Orpheus wants Farid to be his servant, and if Farid says no then Orpheus won't read Dustfinger back.

In volume 2 of the ink world trilogy, the protagonists from the first volume transition into the ink world, where they have to face all sorts of dangerous situations.

Their relationship struck me as unbelievable, as well, which angered me to think of kids leaving this book with the idea that relationships work like Meggie's and Farid's. Of course, it's that sort of earnest, almost gushing veneration of books and book-loving that made the absorbing suspense-fantasy Inkheart so wonderful in the first place, with that lit-affection getting woven integrally into the plot ( Inkheart being both Funke's first book in the series, and the fictitious book within that book, authored by the frustrated Fenoglio, now trapped within the book, er, within the book. meanwhile, Meggie is catching up on all the angst and anger she never directed at her secret-keeping father all these years.Maggie has her mother back but all she can think of is that inky, wondrous world - of the adventures and mayhem, the beauties and the beasties, and the glory and the magic. With a shocking ending, I eagerly await the third and final installment with anticipation and wonder at what Funke will throw us next.

Oddly enough, it reminded me of Star Wars III, when it seemed that all hope was lost and the Dark Side was going to win. They assume that Mortimer is the mysterious gentleman-robber, the "Bluejay", a fictitious hero from a song created by Fenoglio's words.I still love Mo - he is one of my faves and his relationship with Meggie was definitely one of my favourite parts of the first book, which I guess is another part of why it took me so long to get into Inkspell as they were separated until the last quarter of the book - although that did make the last quarter very enjoyable. Fenoglio has been living within his own story since the events of Inkheart, working as a court scribe in Lombrica's capital city of Ombra. This isn't to say that the emotions aren't realistic, or that the characters don't act true to form, or that the story isn't well-plotted.
