Nose: Immediate lemon sharpness softened by warm butterscotch hard-boiled sweets. Lots of honey vanilla on fruit cake with a sprinkle of almonds. It's quite a sweet treat as the fig and raisin trifle comes through quite strongly as well. I finally get to nose the Astar and I'm blown away. It's like a desert in my nose. There's custard, vanilla, cinnamon, and lots and lots of fruit. My wife takes a nose and comes out with the same experience. This whisky smells heavenly. I can't wait to taste it, however my wife will not be joining me for a taste as she needs a break. For me is this a good after dinner whisky, like a 'Luxury Golden Fluid dessert'. I really recommend highly to any one, to try this fantastic dram. Especially for the people who love sweetness. This spirit of innovation has also explored barley variety (Tùsail), heavily roasted chocolate malt (Signet) and, most famously, the manifold possibilities of cask maturation.Anticipated acquisition by Moët Hennessy S.N.C. of Glenmorangie plc". But as McCarron explains, Scotch and bourbon share an interesting relationship: “Historically, the bourbon industry uses each cask once, so there was a market to buy used casks from America. Using new casks for bourbon suits the nature of bourbon and also takes the edge off and seasons the cask, making it perfect for aging whisky afterwards.”

Glenmorangie distillery (pronounced with the stress on the second syllable: listen ⓘ; the toponym is believed to derive from either Gaelic Gleann Mòr na Sìth " vale of tranquillity" or Gleann Mór-innse " vale of big meadows") [3] is a distillery in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland, that produces single malt Scotch whisky. For some years, The Glenmorangie Company supplied its whisky for the production of "own brand" blended whisky by supermarket groups. [10] The practice ceased in 2009 when it sold off the Glen Moray brand. You might be breathing in too strong because your nose is designed to take in a lot of air. So, what I do is open my mouth and breathe in through my mouth instead and this will bring in just the tiniest amount of air through your nose,” McCarron advises. “On the nose, this smells like a very sugary dessert, like crème brûlée, with some lemon and citrus notes.”But the ‘80s and ‘90s saw a gradual move away from blends to concentrate on single malts. For many years, the 10 Year Old expression was the only one bottled by the distillery but in 1987 Glenmorangie released a 1963 vintage single malt which was finished in oloroso sherry casks. This was followed in the early ‘90s by a Port cask-finished whisky and then a plethora of other cask finishes like Madeira, sherry and Sauternes. The switch to single malts was completed in 2014 when the Bailie Nicol Jarvie was discontinued. It remained under the same ownership for the next 90 years, but Glenmorangie still suffered from the ups and downs that plagued the industry throughout the 20th century. The American market was particularly important for Macdonald & Muir with their Highland Queen blended whisky, named after Mary Queen of Scots. Consequently, Glenmorangie struggled throughout Prohibition, which came into force in 1919, and the distillery closed in 1931, only to reopen in 1936. In essence, whisky is an alcohol distilled from fermented grain mash; therefore, bourbon, made from corn, and Scotch, made from malted barley, are both whiskies. However, Scotch is made in Scotland, and bourbon is made in America. Bottling of the Glenmorangie and Ardbeg brands takes place at The Glenmorangie Company's purpose-built bottling plant in The Alba Campus at Livingston, West Lothian, just outside Edinburgh, Scotland. [19] Glenmorangie previously bottled Drambuie in a joint venture with the Drambuie Company; this arrangement ended in 2010. [20] Pronunciation [ edit ]
