About this deal

As for using this filter specifically in combination with Chemex, there were no concerns at all. The silicone ring around the top kept everything securely in place while also being super simple to remove when cleaning became necessary. You will probably gag … I use 7-8 scoops of coffee (scoops depending on type of coffee) for a pot … not really sure about how much water except that I know where on the Chemex that I fill to but I’ve never measured … I think it is a “full” pot.

However, the secret to great coffee is often found in the tools you use to brew it, so you can make an argument that using the best filter possible will significantly increase your chances of brewing a delicious cup of coffee. The Chemex is also dishwasher safe (with the wood handle removed), though I tend to hand wash it using the two methods above. What type of coffee do you recommend? A metal filter allows through all of the coffee’s oils and some of the fines, producing a coffee with a creamy mouthfeel, bold flavour, and heavy body. The coffee style will be similar to that of a French Press but not quite as robust, since the Chemex coffee maker is an infusion brewing method. A coffee filter impacts a coffee’s flavour by dictating how many coffee oils and fines (finely ground coffee) it lets through into the cup ( 6). Coffee oils and fines affect both the taste and body of the resulting cup of coffee ( 7). So what do I do after I’ve brewed a full batch in my Chemex? I save and refrigerate my leftover coffee to be reheated the next day. I’m sure this is blasphemy to coffee connoisseurs, but I’m all about easy and not having to wash my Chemex every day if I don’t have to. It’s like batch cooking. To my credit, Chemex themselves state that coffee can be reheated (without any bitterness) after it’s been refrigerated insealed container. Win! What about Chemex filters?

If you’re a fan of ultra light-bodied, delicate and subtle coffees, then the cloth filter might not be for you. Personally, while I like the classic Chemex brew, I’ve been impressed by the consistency and depth of flavor that can be achieved with the cloth filter. This is great because now you know that it doesn’t matter which Chemex filter to buy. Let’s talk a bit more about why you might want to buy one over the other: Why should you buy one over the other? I stumbled upon you via a food search and wow! I feel like you opened my eyes to a new world of recipes and the coolest and best bakeware – items I was never aware of! It’s like talking to a girlfriend over coffee and learning and sharing new items and ideas!!! Love your information and recipes!!!!! So, the last and certainly the most important question to ask is if there’s a difference in taste between the circle and square Chemex filters.Reusable models like metal and cloth filters require regular maintenancebut make up for this extra effort by reducing waste from paper consumption.

The result? Deliciously smooth and balanced coffee, every time. Well, sort of… as long as you get your Chemex brewing technique down, your scale is precise, you know the magic ratio and the proper water temperatures. Chemex filters are designed with a particular purpose in mind – extracting the best flavor from your coffee beans. For a tasty flash-chilled coffee, use half as much water as usual and weigh out a half batch’s worth of ice (for this recipe, 350 g) directly in your carafe. You’ll have to pour a lot slower, but the coffee will drip directly onto the ice for tasty iced coffee. I meant to mention something re cleaning. I rinse my Chemex with water after each use but no soap. About once a month or whenever I notice any staining, I fill the pot with 1/4-1/3 white vinegar and remaining to the brim with hot water and let it sit for an hour or more and then rinse. This works similar to descaling a coffee maker. At any rate, an option to soap. So today I wanted to share with youeverything I’ve learned about brewing coffee with my Chemex Coffee Maker. And let you know that you too can take the easy brewing route and still havea darn goodcup of coffee! What is a Chemex? Last year, while doing research for this article in Sierra Magazine detailing ways to lower your personal coffee carbon footprint ( a slightly futile activity, it turns out), I decided to take my own advice and replace my paper coffee filters with cloth.
